Currently, handicrafts are classified as a group of products with great export potential in Vietnam.
Normally handicraft items will include products from wood, bamboo and rattan, fine ceramics or textiles.
1. Procedures for exporting handicrafts.
For exported handicraft items, they are not subject to specialized management or require a license. However, each importing country will have different management policies as well as different import documentation requirements.
The set of customs clearance documents includes:
Sale Contract (Contract, if any)
- Export declarations
- Commercial Invoice (commercial contract)
- Packing List (packing slip)
- Bill of Lading/Air waybill (bill of lading)
Some documents that may be required by the importer:
- Certificate of Origin
Although according to current regulations, there is no requirement for the exporter to declare the origin of the goods. However, in many cases, the importer requires the exporter to make a certificate of origin of the goods.
- Certificate of Phytosanitary (Plant quarantine of exporting countries)
- Certificate of Fumigation (Fumigation Certificate)
For items made from wood or bamboo and rattan exported to countries such as the US, Australia, and New Zealand, fumigation is required. Without this certificate, the entire shipment may be required to be returned by Customs.

Ceramics:

- 69149000: Other types
Handwoven, embroidered:
- 5805: Handmade decorative carpets, hand embroidered
- 5810: Embroidered goods in pieces, in strips, or in patterned form
Wood sculpture:
- 44201000: Figurines and wooden decorations
Any item when exported needs to determine the HS code to look up relevant policies and regulations when exporting to foreign countries. And the same goes for handicraft items. Businesses rely on the actual goods and uses to apply the appropriate HS code.
